This week, I participated on a blind tasting panel organized by Sommelier Journal and David Furer, who is based in Austin now. We evaluated 38 white wines from all over Slovenia. I value this experience and enjoyed tasting with fellow Austin wine professionals June Rodil, Nat Davis, Sandra Spalding, Matt Miller, and Greg Randle, plus one Houstonian, sommelier and soon to be restaurateur Antonio Gianola.

Why Mr. Furer moved to the Velvet Rut is beyond me. I'm very glad; he's a welcomed addition and already making a beneficial impact to the scene here. I enjoyed reading his article on the 6000 year old Armenian winery excavation, last month for Decanter, and I look forward to reading about this event later this year. Thanks for inviting me.
