PDX: Soter Vineyards & James Cahill
We learned so much about viticulture from winemaker James Cahill who was gracious enough to tour us through the Mineral Springs vineyard. I've known James since 1993, when I was just beginning to enjoy wine. He is an amazing person.
Making flashcards on viticulture from books on viticulture is no substitute for actually witnessing it & getting a lesson in the vineyard. Thanks, James! After Soter we lunched at Farm to Fork. Their burger is excellent, and yes, that is a bottle of Jasnières on the table. I know it's not from the Willamette, but I couldn't resist. At least I had a glass of Pinot with my burger.
The 2000 Argyle Willamette Brut "Extended Tirage" was released on Friday. We stopped at Argyle and enjoyed a bottle on their porch before heading back to PDX.
10 years on the yeast. This was a tropical, lemon zest, cream fest. A blockbuster with a wicked long finish.Anthony Garcia
