Marshmallow Circus Peanut flavor in red wine
My mom just bought these after Church at HEB. She has loved Circus Peanuts since she was young. I'm glad they're still around for her. You'll encounter this flavor in red wines by-the-glass that have been opened too long, or red wines that are oxidized by the bottle. In particular, the Rhône and Spain, if aerated too long, will taste like the candy.
Every now and then one of the 187ml sample bottles will throw this flavor. The 1994 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from yesterday's tasting had a hint of it. The orginal bottle from Greg Randle's cellar did not.
People inquire if conserving wines for blind tasting, using 187ml bottles, is a valid technique. There are a few drawbacks, but for the most part it works splendidly. Believe me, I have had a lot of experience!
