Jeffrey's Restaurant- an eventful first shift back
I required a short hiatus from Jeffrey's Restaurant to take the Master Sommelier Diploma Exam. The first wine I sold, upon my return to the floor, was this beautiful 1982 Château Giscours, Margaux (Third Growth). After recommending the Bordeaux, I realized I left my decanting cradle at home. Good thing I live four blocks from the restaurant.
While the guests, a two-top, enjoyed their first course bubbly, I briskly walked home (thank goodness for lightweight wool suits), grabbed the cradle and my favorite decanter, polishing it as I headed back. The guests insisted I try the wine with them, which was a very generous offer. The wine was superb. I took a taste back to Chef Deegan as well. I'm so glad to be home. I will write of my experience taking the Master Sommelier Diploma Exam, probably within the next seven days.Anthony Garcia
