There's a hole where Tocai Restaurant & Wine Bar used to be

Photo

Nice. I look forward to the new façade of 601 West 6th Street. I have so many memories where that demolishing crew is. I was so young and inexperienced back then, and I thought I knew everything.

Those were fun days, but I wouldn't trade where I am today for a thousand Tocai's. Happily Married & Lucid.

Blind tasting myself

Photo

Anne's been out of town for a week. In her absence, I've been blind tasting myself.

People ask what I do with the extra wine from my blind tastings. I have an army of uniform 187ml bottles. The extra wine goes into these bottles for blind tasting later. Currently, I have over 130 of these.

I record myself. I time myself. After I am finished, I listen to the playback and write everything down, then analyze the results. It's a little weird, I'll admit.

Flipping flashcards: Howson Branch of Austin Public Library

Photo

Extra cold in here today & lots of heavy perfume around me. I'm getting the hang of listening to myself as I flip flashcards. Effectively it combines learning by sight (reading) & sound (listening).

I wonder if smelling the heavy perfume will play a part in learning the material?

Last night the DJ Mel & DJ Ztrip show. Paying the price today.

Photo

Crazy, loud, fun, late. My ears are still ringing. Republic Live's sound system is ridiculous.

I made myself run around Town Lake. I almost died. It is so hot. So much better to run early. I have to get some food in me.

Working tonight on the floor might be challenging.

My Laguiole wine tool with sharpened & modified blade

Photo

I have two Laguiole wine tools, but this one's my favorite. I bought this white horn or bone (I can't remember which, I think it's horn) years ago from Steve Savina at Grape Vine Market.

My Dad designs golf clubs and has a workshop in his garage. He uses a special belt to make the blade sharp. I asked him to remove the serrated edge and take some of the curve out, too. Nice.

We had a great Father's Day brunch this past Sunday. Anne & I cooked über-fancy breakfast tacos, served with St. Germain Kir Royales. We call them Clear Royale cocktails.

Thank goodness for @cipollinabistro / Cipollina Bistro on West Lynn

Photo

After a long day in the sun at my brother's and an extremely busy night at Jeffrey's Restaurant, to come to Cipollina and eat Chef Daniel's wild boar pâté & steak tartare was just what I needed.

A couple of glasses of rosé didn't hurt either. A short walk home and bed awaits.

If you haven't yet, you need to experience what's going on here! End of story.

Resort week continued

Photo

Anne and I headed back to my brother's place yesterday. His family returns this Sunday, so we have been whooping it up.

Img_5953

You can do whatever you want here, be as loud as you want. We didn't go to bed until 3:30. This is what I awoke to; it's gorgeous.

We took the golf cart to the Barton Creek resort for Blooody Marys and sandwiches. It's pretty crowded, so now we're going back home for some poolside R&R.
