Anne's Wine Towels

Photo

I remember when the Driskill Grill kept a small stash of black cotton napkins for guests who would ask specifically for them. Even though the Italian-made Frette linen was way more soignée and didn't leave lint on guests' apparel, and rather than explain that to the guest, it was just easier and more hospitable to grant the request.

The real benefit to having the "black napkins" around was that these were the best wine service towels bar none: lint-free, impossible to stain & elegant.

When I returned to the Driskill these amazing serviettes were all but gone. Sometimes, on a rare occassion, I could find one or two in Laundry.

One day, Anne was making napkin-prototypes from materials she recently found. One cloth in particular was an amazing dark navy, absorbent, lint-free cotton that had a silky feel. I saw the benefit instantly and asked her to please make me a set.

I love these serviettes. They are the best for serving wine. I let her know I was so overjoyed when she finished making them and she said, "You're easy to please!"
